Every one of us has a bucket list. Even those that claim they don’t have an official bucket list, do have several things they would like to do before they die. A bucket list consists of experiences or accomplishments that a person wishes to achieve during their lifetime. Sometimes a bucket list can also consist of goals that people wish to accomplish before they “kick the bucket” — or pass away. Are you looking for some unique bucket-list inspiration? Tune into my bucket list book for this year that can inspire you to do some out-of-the-box things in life.
Things to do on a bucket list don’t necessarily have to be a tourist destination; it could simply be an activity or experience that you would enjoy. It can be something small and simple or a big grand event. Whatever it is, if it is personal to you, you should go out and chase it. Then once you have done it, rinse and repeat!
An NCBI research conducted on 3016 participants states that 91.2% of participants reported having a bucket list. Interestingly, participants who said faith and spirituality were important to them were more likely to have a bucket list than those who said it was unimportant.
Things On My Bucket List That Are Worth A Try
I have put together some amazing things to do in life in my bucket list book 2021. For some inspiration, find the top items and things on my bucket list below:
1. Skydiving In Switzerland
Still yet to be done. On my previous trip to Switzerland, I had the opportunity to skydive over the Swiss Alps, yet I had to pass on the cost, and it is one of my regrets when traveling. Nevertheless, this is one of the things I want to do in my life.
The view alone is worth the £300-£400 price tag, but alas, it was out of my price range on a budget travel trip.
If you are lucky enough with the weather (which can have severe mood swings in Switzerland), you can jump out of the plane, feeling the rush of adrenaline, looking over the glistening snow, and feeling the g-force wind on your face.
Having the opportunity to skydive anywhere should not be seen, but Switzerland makes it that much more special. So do include it in your things to do in the life bucket list too.
2. Snorkeling With Wild Dolphins
Swimming with dolphins is common on people’s bucket lists, just like my bucket list book. Most people think they must do this in some theme park, but it is possible to swim with wild ones, and it is an even more fantastic experience.
Firstly, you are not supporting keeping these animals in captivity, and secondly, the freedom of the open ocean is a feeling that cannot be described. This is one I can scratch off my bucket list. I had the opportunity when in Sodwana, South Africa.
A beautiful stretch of coastline with cheeky monkeys that like to steal your lunch. I spent a week here heading out on the boats in search of humpback whales and dolphins and was incredibly lucky. The skipper spotted them and shouted for us to drop. “GO GO GO.”
We dropped in, and the dolphins were in a playful mood swimming around us and squealing at each other. It was a serious heart in mouth moment and one I will never forget.
3. Volcanoes in Iceland
Iceland. You either are desperate to visit or not that bothered. Some may not consider it the most exciting country, but I think it is fascinating. From the culture to the landscape, Iceland has so much to offer.
One of the most exciting things to do in life is to see volcanoes. Iceland is a volcanic island in itself, and due to the mid-Atlantic ridge is slowly separating, allowing spewing lava to erupt in fissures. This is a sight that is rarely seen elsewhere and is one of the best ideas on my bucket list.
Where there are volcanoes, there are geysers, and Iceland is home to one of the biggest. The Great Geyser. A spectacular sight of water bursting out of the Earth – be sure to bring an umbrella because you will get wet! And if that isn’t enough for you, there are glaciers, natural hot spas, and green fields.
4. Victoria Falls
Another thing in my bucket list book is Victoria Falls. Located on the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe, it is considered the largest waterfall globally. You can hear the noise from 40 kilometers away!
As a UNESCO World Heritage Site is is something inconceivable until seen with your own eyes, something I am yet to see.
During the dry season, it is even possible to walk through the waterfall or sit in a pool at the top and overlook the steep drop.
5. African Game Drives
This is one of the best ideas on my bucket list. Another part of my African adventure was spent in the bush on the outskirts of Limpopo Game Reserve on the Olifants River.
Here, every day we would head out on foot or in the trucks in search of the abundance of wildlife that graced the landscape. Seeing such magnificent creatures in their natural habitat does put your life in perspective, making you realize how small you are in this world.
The wildlife did not disappoint with hippos, leopards, zebra, giraffes, a herd of 27 elephants, Impala (the pigeons of South Africa), lions, and even a baby rhino. One to do in your lifetime.
6. Road Trip In America
In a Cadillac or on the back of a Harley. Setting out on the highway in the states is a common and easily achievable bucket list item. However, with so much ground to cover, you either need to have a lot of time or be very selective about where you visit and what you do. Or just do the famous routes such as Route 66 or Big Sur California.
There are so many options and states to start in, you can do it all yourself, or several tour companies take you on custom or pre-set routes. So, pack your bags and head out on that highway. Although keep in mind that you do have to be 25 to rent your car out there.
7. Hot Air Balloons, Cappadocia Turkey
Lonely Planet quotes, “Cappadocia is a geological oddity of honeycombed hills and towering boulders of otherworldly beauty.” A less well-known destination but popular with travel bloggers, this is a worthy destination to add to your list.
A stunning landscape that can be appreciated from the ground or the sky with several ballooning companies to take you to the clouds. This is undoubtedly a must on any bucket list inspiration.
The best time to view all these colorful balloons is at sunrise or sunset to get the true awe-inspiring feeling. Isn’t it one of the best bucket list ideas?
Benefits Of Bucket Lists
Concluding Thoughts
The bucket list could go on and on until I probably name every country in the world, but everyone has the things they wish to do/visit, and that’s what should be on your bucket list. I believe these activities and destinations on this list are worth trying, and you can use them for inspiration. So do what you love and go where you want to go.
