How To Live A Longer And Healthier Life?

1. Physical Activity

Being physically active is crucial for feeling and being healthy. Regular exercises can prevent future diseases of the body like heart diseases, strokes, diabetes, and can improve body strength, balance, and flexibility.

Only thirty minutes of exercise at least three to five days a week can help even the people who are suffering from chronic arthritis and improve their capacity of performing daily activities like driving or climbing stairs.

No one is too old to start exercising, so start slowly but exercise daily!

2. Eating Healthy Food

We all have to maintain a healthy balance in the food that we are eating every day. The people who eat more vegetables and fruits as part of their healthy diet are likely to be healthier.

Eating a diet full of vegetables and fruits may improve your health by reducing heart diseases like a heart attack or stroke. Most of the vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories but most importantly they are the sources of many vitamins and nutrition.

So ‘dive in’ in your own diet of healthy food!

3. Stop Smoking

Quitting smoking is the most important thing you can do for preserving your own health. This poisonous habit causes a large number of cancers in the USA.

Roughly 90% of men and 80% of women suffer from lung cancer.

Giving up smoking is maybe difficult but not impossible. It definitely requires a serious life commitment and in some cases changes in the behavior, use of nicotine gum, nicotine patches, or even counseling.

However, in the end, all the effort to stop smoking will turn out to be worthy and important for our health.

4. Try to Reduce Your Stress in Life

Stress has a huge impact on our daily life. Most of our stress is caused by our work, so trying to reduce it in some way can really improve our lives. Some of the stressful situations that we deal with it on a daily basis are responsible for increasing the level of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline.

Later this high level of cortisol and adrenaline can be the cause of many diseases.  So, the next time you feel stressed out go for a walk in the fresh air or try to relax before you go to bed.

5. Get Enough Sleep

Sleeping well really affects our mood and our health in the long-term. So rather than taking medications we should just relax and meditate before going to sleep or do some important changes to our daily routine and bedtime habits.

Trying to create a schedule to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day can regulate our body’s internal clock and optimize the quality of our sleep.

Also avoiding sleeping at the weekends and instead just take a daily nap from 15-20 minutes in the early afternoon can really improve the quality of our sleep.

6. Be Generous and Supportive to Others

A study conducted with an elderly population showed that those who engaged in helping others ended up living longer lives.

Connecting with others makes us more caring and compassionate and that can really influence the quality of our life in the long term.

We will be happier with ourselves and when we harness good emotions within us, then we harness a good and healthy life ahead of us. So, trying to live a life filled with compassion, care, and altruism for others can surely help us to live as long as possible.
