10 Effective Secrets to Mastering Your Mind

Your mind is your worst enemy. If you still have doubts about it, remember that voice in the back of your head telling you that you’ll fail whenever you start dreaming.

Are you thinking of applying for a job you really want? “Don’t bother. They’ll surely hire someone with more experiences or better references,” the voice goes.

Would you like to start your own business? “You’re not born to be an entrepreneur. It takes time and money to make it work, and you need to put food on the table”.

Did you see a boy or a girl you like? “Come on, he/she will never take you seriously!”

Perhaps that voice within is right, and your dreams really are out of reach. But what if it’s wrong and, by listening to it, you give up your chance to happiness, you deny yourself the opportunity to live your dream?

For that “maybe” or “what if,” it should be worth learning to master your mind and silence that annoying voice once and for all. If you try and you don’t succeed, you will at least know you did your best, and it wasn’t meant to be. If you don’t try, you will always wonder what may have happened.

How do you master your mind, silence your fears, and find the courage to follow your dreams? We will provide a few simple but effective solutions in the following lines.

10 Steps to Mastering Your Mind and Preparing for Success

1. Correlate Your Dreams with Your Strengths and Interests

It’s great to dream big and aim high. However, turning dreams into reality takes work, skills, and patience. You need to focus on the things you are good at or at least passionate about. This way, pursuing your goals will be a pleasure, and you will never lose your motivation and your patience.

2. Prioritize

I’m sure you want to do a lot of things. However, if you go after all of them at once, chances are you will never obtain them. It’s like chasing several rabbits at the same time: you won’t catch any. Instead, choose what is more important to you now, get it, and only then move on to your next goal. Organization and discipline eventually payout.

3. Don’t Lose Grip of Reality

You can eventually be governor or president or conquer a celebrity if you wish. However, to reach that point, you need to set intermediate goals you can reach from your current position. If you stick to your path, each intermediate goal will get you one step closer to the final one.

4. Don’t Let Anyone Tell You What You Can and Cannot Do

If you want to be a winner, you need to think like one. Unfortunately, hearing everyone around you say that you cannot win doesn’t help.

If you cannot make them respect your decisions and support your actions, perhaps it is time to take some distance.

Besides, when everyone around you doubts your abilities, you end up doubting them yourself, whether you like it or not.

5. Face Your Fears

That voice in your head, those obstacles you keep raising between you and your dreams are nothing else but fears. You are worried you will fail your job interview, or the person you like will reject you.

However, you will surely not land the job if you don’t attend the interview, and you will surely not get a date if you don’t ask for it.

Don’t Let Fear Decide Your Future!

The worst-case scenario is that you don’t get what you want. However, you can take comfort in knowing that you tried, and there is always the chance that your fears will prove wrong, and you will get the targeted job or the desired date.

6. Do Your Homework

Most of your fears refer to things you do not know and cannot control. Knowledge brings about power.

Start learning and finding answers to your questions.

You will feel more in control, prepared, and confident in your own chances of success. Eventually, you will know what to expect and how to act. You will be able to plan your moves and act efficiently.

Besides, learning equals self-development, progress, and new opportunities.

7. Don’t Give Up

I hate to break this to you, but you will sometimes fail and fall. It’s just life’s game. If you are ready to play it, you will get back up and start fighting again.

You will find out what caused your fall and learn from it to avoid falling again. If you remain on the ground out of fear that you may fall again, you will never get to the top.

In the end, the decision is all yours, but I suggest you take each fall as a reason to keep fighting.

If you need inspiration, check out James Dyson’s story. It took him 15 years and over 5,000 prototypes to succeed, yet he didn’t give up. You can succeed, too, if you keep fighting.

8. Don’t Lose Yourself or Your Loved Ones

I’ve seen people so desperate to reach their goals that they neglect their health, relationships and even break their own principles. You should never forget who you are, where you come from, and what you stand for.

Never sell your soul to the devil. You will lose your peace, your self-respect, and your loved one’s appreciation, and it isn’t worth it. When you reach the top, you will only enjoy your success if it was the result of your own efforts, not some sleazy maneuver you are ashamed to admit.

9. Believe in Yourself

Before you can ask anyone to trust you with their support, confidence, or money, you need to believe you are worth their confidence.

You need to trust yourself and your ability to accomplish anything you set your mind to.

If you have to, look at yourself in the mirror and repeat: “You can do it! You’ve got this! You’re a winner!”. If you really believe this, it will eventually come true.

10. Enjoy the Ride

Some dreams take years of hard work to become a reality. Unless you make those years pleasurable and learn to have fun on your way up, to enjoy every turn and create some great memories, you may end up realizing that you’ve wasted years of your life pursuing nothing.

It’s great that you want to win the game, but until you get the trophy, make every second of the game count. Give your best, and live every minute to the full. This way, at the end of it all, you can proudly look back and conclude that, even though you lost the ride, it was a great one!
